I don't know if any of you watch "Cracking the Cryptic" which is a Youtube series where a couple of top flight sudoku players solve puzzles from scratch.
This one is a bit of a beast because it throws up many candidates and introduces a new solving technique - certainly new to me at least, apparently called "Exocet". Simon Anthony is the solver and you hear him talking aloud as he works through it. The puzzle designer is called Shye.

Wow, this puzzle is insane, as I assumed it would be. There are at least 10 Discontinuous Nice Loops, and 5 Kraken Fish among various other advanced techniques. I did not attempt it, just ran it through my program to see what it might find. I stay away from these basically.
cheers...immp |

Wow! That's a tough one! I determined that there are a couple of possible one-step solutions though because if you assume that r9c5 is a 7 it leads to a contradiction and if it's not a 7 then the puzzle gets solved - and if you assume that r8c9 is a 9 it leads to a contradiction and if it's not a 9 then it gets solved. The chains that I had to produce were pretty horrendous though! |

Yes. Brutal. Either of those two will end up putting two 8's into row 8 (r8c18) but there's a lot of masochism involved! |
