Thanks Immpy, a nice puzzle to end the year

Sometimes patterns are nice to spot, but may or not help you solve

In this case, you can remove the 1 in r7c1 as you would get <46> pair in box 7 and then also r7c9=2, r5c9=9 gives <46> pair in box 4 creating UR

This led me to say if r6c1=9, r6c7=3, r4c9=9 leads to no <9> in box 5

Happy New Year

Tom

Well since 9's are the focus, I will look elsewhere to a nice XY chain.

Pincers for 4 at r4c2 and r5c8 means r5c12 < > 4. Follow a-d. Or d-a if you prefer.

Code:
+-----------+-------------+-------------+
| 123 13  9 | 12  5    4  | 8    6  7   |
| 5   8   6 | 129 239  7  | 1234 24 123 |
| 12  7   4 | 6   23   8  | 123  9  5   |
+-----------+-------------+-------------+
| 8   34a 7 | 249 269  26 | 5    1  39b |
| ⓸69 ⓸6 5 | 3   8    1  | 7   24d 29c |
| 349 2   1 | 49  7    5  | 34   8  6   |
+----------+-------------+-------------+
| 146 5   3 | 8   1246 9  | 126  7  12  |
| 7   9   8 | 5   126  26 | 126  3  4   |
| 146 146 2 | 7   146  3  | 9    5  8   |
+-----------+-------------+-------------+

Extend the XY chain by one and r6c7 <> 4 as then a=4 and no <4> in box 5

Extend it one further still and we get r6c4 < > 4 because if it was then another 4 gets put into r4c4 - two 4’s in box 5. Contradiction.

….if you insist r6c4 = 4 then r4c4 < > 4.
It also means there’s a 9 in r4c9. So r4c4 < > 9
That 9 created a <26> pair in box 5 and r4c4 < > 2

R4c4 is empty …….. Is that echo Perry Como I can hear ?

Perfectly!

Be a while before she plays Gibraltar again.
She jumped on the stage there and shouted out:
“Hello Spain!”.
